Aiyoyo Parliament ah?
United Voice has been invited to the parliament together with other disability groups to witness Shahrizat present the Disability Bill yesterday. Even tough it was my day off but I insisted on going. We had 6 places anyway. I told Swee Lan that I would not miss the chance of throwing rotten eggs at the MBs. hahaha
Took a cab there in the morning and was wondering if the guard would stop me since I have no letter with me but he let the cab pass. Then I found out from Chok who is from the Selangor society of Blind that the guard actually stopped them and ask for a letter. There were 3 blind persons in the cab. Talk about discrimination!!
There were about about 40-45 people there representing various disability groups. As usual we waited and waited until someone from the Ministry took us 1 round around the parliament lobby and then some of us were ushered in to the Dewan Rakyat and seated at the observation area. No mobile, no camera and remain quiet. Some MBs were talking about oil subsidiary and foreign workers. As usual James were falling asleep and I had to poke him many times. We had to endure listening to them talk for about 30 mins (seems like eternity!) Then Shahrizat came in and presented the Disability Bill. It was over in 2 minutes!! We left the hall and went back to the lobby to take photos with Shahrizat. She was being the usual politician... taking photos, shaking hands and assuring us that everything will be all right.
It was a nice experience. Dun mind going again next monday when they will have a debate about the Bill.
